To be precise,

There is only 2 ways to get Thief Invite.
- Buy from market
- Reach TG5

Purpose of getting Thief Invite
- Resell / Keep
- Use to enter Thief Guild

Using 80 diamonds will allow player to enter Thief Guild without Thief Invite.

So, what is your main objective?
To enter Thief Guild to start thieving? Then diamonds will work just as well.
If it is to get Thief Invite to resell, TG5 or buy from market.
