AuthorLet minorities speak their language on the forum (moderated)
I suggest to make a thread in off-topics where large minorities (i.e., non-english speaking) can speak in their language.

Subject to the following conditions:
i) There is a large number of them that don't speak english.
ii) There is at least one official moderator who speaks that language and is willing to moderate that thread.

We don't need no admin to do this, it's all up to us to organize ourselves. Some advantages of why:

1. It's easier on the server. Much fewer messages beeing sent between 100 non-english speakers (because they can't use the forum), than if they post one single message on forum, and everyone reads it.

2. Get rid of all the gibberish from the rest of the forum ^_^

3. Those who don't speak english won't learn it just so that they can post on the forum. They will just go silent and isolated and bored and... eventually vanish. I don't think we have a problem with overpopulation on .com. Allowing them to make a circle of their own will make them feel more "at home". This can only make the server more alive and dynamic, and hopefully more attractive to everyone.

4. It's polite! What harm can it make to let a large number of non-english speakers talk to each other, as long as it's moderated?
Are we just blindly following rules set in stone many ages ago by some people who have lost all contact with the ground here?

In particular there are many russians here who don't speak english. Saying that they can just go on their russian server is the lamest excuse! (sorry to some) Maybe there are reasons for them moving to .com, just as well as there (understandably) are reasons for people moving from .com to .ru

And lastly, maybe one day, .ru will be civil enough to also allow one English speaking thread on their forum. Wouldn't you appreciate to have a door of communication with others if ever joined the .ru? (assuming you don't already speak russian).
well,if there are moderators that can read spanish, french and so on,why not?
if there are such moderators +1 if not -1
I see no problems with this, but isn't that partially why we have such clans?
for Pantheon:
yes, but:
- sending a mail to the whole clan is copying the same message (say) over 100 times (reason 1. above)
- there are more than one clan of (say) russian speaking people. There is no unified way for them to communicate, unless they all join all those clans. But in most of cases that is impossible because of the militarization of the clans: some of them are already militarized, and those who aren't ... dream to become.
Also, maybe some of them want to join other military clans -- they are forced to remain in their language-speaking military clan.

A forum thread will allow to bring them all together no matter their (game)-political affiliation.

PS: I don't plan on moving to .ru, so this has no advantage for me. But I think it would make a warmer environment for those who don't speak english (and there are many).
another reason:

For example, say I speak another language than English, but I could never communicate with all my minority-community (non-English speaking) just because I want to be in an English-speaking military clan, and their language-speaking clan is militarized as well.

There is a lot divison/pockets -- no unified among all those who speak language A, and not unified among all those who speak language A + language B (where language B can be English, but not necessary).
dude go learn some english ...is that hard to learn?

how many languages in the world?if all people wan speak their own languages how many team u need to build up?

-1 useless idea
On line translator is your friend

-1 useless idea
Bit harsh moro88. English isn't that easy to learn I believe.

I think it's an idea that would take too much effort for not enough return. It couldn't be moderated well enough, as moderators need to be trusted, and there's just not enough foreign speaking potential mods who have the level of trust to be given mod powers (especially considering the current "Are mods abusing their power" fiasco. )

you got the OFG for that
Google translator is more than enough :) Trust me, I use for .ru and it works well.
Why do they not meet in one of the empty chat channels? I dont see anyone objecting to this and cant see any of the chat MODs having a problem and going into a room no one else uses to ban them?

This will still be a potential problems for Russian players trying to talk with Russian characters as I believe there is an auto-ban function which stops this but even for them, if they use ascii characters it would probably still be better than nothing.

re: Translation software. I have always found Yahoo translater - http://uk.babelfish.yahoo.com/ - more accurate than Googles but these are aimed primarily at "business" translations and are very poor for general "chat" types of conversations. So agree that automated translations are not very useful in this context.
english has alot of rules,i had a very tough time learning why the "e" changes the word car,and ltos of rules with grammar,moro88
for shock2255:

and yet its one of the easiest language to learn with a little bit of will from the learner. The OGF forums are opened to foreign language thread, I dont see why you need more then that.

The chat private and private mail can be use to communicate well enough. This is an English server with English as official language. As for one not native English speaker, over the year I have learn the language and now can deal with it to an understanding level, not good, far from perfect, but it took me time and will to learn it. Everyone can do it, its a simple matter of will to learn.

The auto-ban in chat is a problem for Russian players as it will automaticly ban peoeple using russians words, cyrillic letters are also out of context there.
-1 This server is completely in english, if they do not speak//type english they should not know how to go to the forum anyways =D

The rest know enough english ^.^
+1 That or make a Greek server :)
+1 I know some people who are learning english for 7 years but can't speak 3 sentences in a row and we all know the rubbish, translated by online translators. Also nobody would ask a question in the empty chat rooms, because they are ... empty.

I suggest admins should create a new forum for non english speaking players. This forum gets its own moderators, which have only power over this forum.
(I think one Russian mod, one Spanish mod, one French mod, one German mod and one Chinese mod should be enough.)

We don't need no admin to do this, it's all up to us to organize ourselves.

Another "mods can break the rules when it suits my will" comment. *sigh*

In particular there are many russians here who don't speak english. Saying that they can just go on their russian server is the lamest excuse! (sorry to some) Maybe there are reasons for them moving to .com, just as well as there (understandably) are reasons for people moving from .com to .ru

Possibly IF .com was the Big Brother of .ru and people came here to see the new events/factions/wars/etc, but this is not at all the case; OR if I had been blocked on .com and wanted to continue playing on ru. However, I am not one for rewarding those who do wrong and get themselves blocked.

And lastly, maybe one day, .ru will be civil enough to also allow one English speaking thread on their forum. Wouldn't you appreciate to have a door of communication with others if ever joined the .ru? (assuming you don't already speak russian).

This isn't even what you're asking. Your saying for ALL other minorities to have their own thread...and if not, then once the Russian, Spanish, French, or German (as suggested in 16) have their threads then the others will DEMAND theirs too - to be fair. Also this would require an entire FORUM, not just a single thread otherwise the "language threads" would take over the forum.

This is what has been provided by the admins thus far:
2.5.1. It is allowed to use other languages in the following cases:
- The phrase is a quotation. In case of large amount of quote text, a brief English rendering is required.
- The language, being mother language for the majority of members, is used in a specific clan's topic.

@11
Why do they not meet in one of the empty chat channels?

could this be why?

1.6. The official game language is English. It is the only language acceptable in public chat.

Your idea implicitly suggests racial clustering via a common native language. This can lead to many potential undesirable outcomes, which I do not want to elaborate on. There are enough articles on the web on such topics for anyone interested to do a search for it. I personally believe that it would be a lot more better for everyone to communicate through a common platform (i.e. English) for purposes of diversity, breaking cultural barriers, etc.. I believe this will improve the social aspect of the game in a much more robust manner than grouping around a same language.

If a player really wants to speak in his/her native language, he/she can just make a post on the OFG to gather a band of like-minded players and set up a Instant Messenger group to communicate. This not only allow such players to feel more inclusive of the game(as stated in post 1, point 3), but also preserves the larger common communication platform of the game for all players to share their thoughts and queries on.
