I was ambushed and ended up with negative gold. When I finished my merc quest, I received 92gold from the quest minus the -55 gold to end up with 37. Why have an estate to store your money if it still can be stolen? and why the negative balance?

you can fall to negative if you get fined or ambushed
this is not unusual |
| Think as you got ambushed but you have no cash with you SO the thief ransom your troop, you need to pay them when you have money later (or withdraw from your estate) :) |
