Isn't this imposssible to beat?

My other account played it (Vanguard of Wizards {4}). There was no way I could have stopped the engineers from killing the merc archer. | | use some arts which will give +4-5% Initiative, then try | That should work, but when I played with my main account, it was possible without the extra initiative as there wasn't so many engineers.
