AuthorCounter spells effect
As it is now if someone casts a bless and another hero right after it casts a curse it is like that bless was never there. Even if the first hero has a lot more spell power than the second. And that is Crap (yep... capital c and I do not mean it as a curse)

I see two solutions for this:
a) A hero can only negate a spell if his spell power is higher than spell power of the hero who cast the spell. Or at least there should be some % chance to negate the spell that depends on the ratio between the heroes spell power

b) The effects of counter spells should somehow add together (so bless would raise the minimum damage and curse would lower the maximum) but there is some work needed on the formulas here
actually, they are both duration spells, meaning that the SP influence both.

A hero with a higher SP will have his spell last longer.

Also, their action depends on darkness and holy magic levels: so, a hero with advanced holy magic casting a bless on a curse casted by a hero with no darkness magic skills, will not only remove the curse, but also add some blessing to the character.
You missed the point :) I know that duration depends on spell power.

But check this case:

Hero A with 5 spell power has his turn before hero B who has no spell power at all (only one point in knowledge).
A then decides to bless one of hiss stacks. The bless would last for 5 turns.
But right after that B with 0 spell power casts a curse on the same stack and it's like that bless was never there!
I like a) part 2.
hum.. have to check this, but although i noticed that a lower level curse removes a higher level one (ex, when my genies cast curse for 5 turns and then a 0 SP demon assisting casts curse for 0,5 turns, the curse ends after 0,5), it seemed to me that opposite spells "came back" after the shorter one's effect was out (that is, in your example, the stack would recover its blessing after 0,5 turns).

However, now that i think of it, i don't remember having noticed (or checked for) this happening.. pheraps it doesn't :p (i will pay attention next time)

Eventually, this might be a more natural way to extend the spells (that is, the longer one effect would last for a longer time and so start working once the shorter one is gone), specially thinking that dispersion already removes all effects (with a little luck ^^)
Citizen is correct. I have had my genies cast a fat curse on someone, then someone with no special talents, or SP, but has some knowledge drops a weak blessing...and bam...curse is gone.

Really is like a "bug" in my opinion, since it doesn't make any sense.
i would like to see a formula where your magic talent is taken into account.

basic magic talent = 1
advanced magic talent = 2
expert magic talent = 3

in case of counterspelling, its the first - the second one cast. the result gives the strenght of the spell.

let's say a curse cast by a hero with expert magic talent and afterwards a blessing cast by a hero with basic magic talent - it would change to a curse cast with a advanced magic talent...

but i don't know how units spells are calculated concerning their magic talent...
