Author | Critical rules addendum: Tournaments |
3.22. Any tournaments with a prize reward, both combat and card game ones, must be approved by the Administration. The Administration will not allow multiple tournaments be hosted simultaneously, moreover, none of the custom tournaments will be held while there is an official one. The details of your future tournament must be discussed directly with a member of the Administration. Hosting tournaments without such permission will be punished with a significant penalty to the organizer.

In other words, the Administration will assist responsible players in organizing tournaments for the periods when there are no official events.
If you wish to host a tournament with prize, contact me by PM and narrate your tournament plan. The more details you can provide, the greater your chances are to get the permission.
I shall list the approximate schedule of licensed tournaments in my Character info.
Remember, you do not need a license to hold a friendly tournament with no prize. Any clans can conduct events among their members as long as they do not contradict the General rules. | So are you saying that even in-clan ONLY tournaments have to be approved by the Administration?
If so that is being quite cumbersome, don't you think?? | But who should we ask?Empire,Alexander,Maxim,You?
If we ask empire, alexander, maxim and adminstation(Dealer and sercetary?)Will they reply? | But who should we ask?Empire,Alexander,Maxim,You?

the answer:

Since tournaments involve prizes, it's close to a Bookmaker activity.
"This 12,000 gold transfer in my log? Well, err, some friends and I were holding a tournament, and, uh, I won..."
Yet, I find the part regarding clan events a bit unclear. First, 3.22 rule says nothing about clan tournaments, and your explanation, Arctic - "Any clans can conduct events among their members as long as they do not contradict the General rules" slightly misleading, because if I understand correctly, I'm with Krrak on this one: it means every single clan tournament, as long as it has a prize, has to be approved by the Administration.
The real good part of this all is here IMHO: "The details of your future tournament must be discussed directly with a member of the Administration." It means the Administration will respond! Wohoo! ^_^
PS: does it affect tournaments created before this rule applies, like the Warriors' Guild Christmas Tournament? | So are you saying that even in-clan ONLY tournaments have to be approved by the Administration?

In-clan ONLY tournaments are perfectly okay as long as they have no prize reward. It is very well stated in 3.22's opening sentence:
Any tournaments with a prize reward (...) must be approved by the Administration. | But assuming they do have a prize award...
And what about tournaments going on right now? You want a writeup? | Good question. We decided to let all current tournaments see their finals. To specify, We'll ignore any transfers of "Tournament reward! You won the first place"'s like until the New year. All organizers are urged to speed things up so that their tournament can be finished in time.
But beginning with today, transfers with tournament participation fees become illegal. | Hello Arctic,
Sorry to bother you, but does such events:
"to write down every clan member's Laborer's guild points on Monday, then write down on Sunday, sort in excel who made best progress and award first 3 places"
or
"to write down every clan member's Hunter's guild points on Monday, then write down on Sunday, sort in excel who made best progress and award first 3 places"
falls under "Any tournaments with a prize reward" category? | They don't. Those are competitions, not tournaments, and as stated by the rule, only tournaments both combat and card game ones fall under it.
Nevertheless, you are advised to comment the transfers of your awards as good as possible, because if a sweeper sees a "You got the 2nd place in this event! Here are you 2k) transfer, I doubt he would have second thoughts but to impose a penalty to the transferring character. | I like being the devil's advocate so I have to say this whole thing sounds a bit... hmmm... how can I phrase this politely... let's say awkward at best (if not stupid... sorry...). I mean, rewards for combat tournaments are forbidden but rewards for other kinds of competitions are ok? What's stopping anyone that wants to transfer gold illegally from devising a "competition" like that to cover it up? Tournaments have proof, there are the combat logs available to anyone that would want to check for flaws in terms of fair play. How do you check if "the xxx member of the yyy clan got the most skill points in a week"? | I merely made clear what the rule was stating. This thread's purpose is,besides informing, to answer such questions, you know :) The Administration had their reasons to implement such a rule due to certain, so to say, breathtaking tournament rewards (read Kotrin's post). I don't think anyone would get over 10k gold for being an excelled hunter for a week, but if we start spotting such activities, well, the rules page still has a lot of unused space. ^_^
To prohibit everything at once is a regime. To limit unfair actions already in motion is a duty. |
