AuthorDiscussion: The Rules, Empire, Community, Improperness, Law.
If TS doesn't know for certain...then it is always smart to err on the side of caution, and ask before acting. But based on what I've been reading, more than a Moderator's choice to impose their sense of 'justice' on the T and S forum...is their gross negligence to enforcing a uniform code, and busting only "certain" people. That is wrong.

Also, Omega, you serious that writing more than a one word bump, is any different than writing a setence that is in essence the same thing? I wish I could bring up a thread where it was discussed, with various mods participating, in regards to that same thing for Clan Thread bumping a while back. There, it was decided, that there was no 'clever' way of masking a bump. Shortly later, the admins added more rules to further restrict bumps to that forum, but the spirit of the argument is the same.

No one is too clever for someone else to notice, if they're being shady--or bumping in a cladestine fashion.
I will now raise an ongoing issue that has been presented to the community and ruled by Arctic as a valid and reasonable argument as seen in Arctic's post # 78 on this very thread.

78 2009-10-23 07:04:20

"I acknowledge the importance of this case, I agree with certain points of both sides of the opposing groups that have formed for this period."

Many times in the past I have raised the issue of a group of friends controlling the forums and chat rooms. I was dismissed as paranoid even though evidence was posted backing up what things "appeared" to look like to those on the outside of this group. You can see my last post about this subject in post #50 on this thread.

Now it seems this issue has to be raised once more. I intend to show abuse of the public inquiry room by some forum moderators and chat moderators. While this issue has touched me personally as you will see below, any player who gets on the wrong side of this group is also subject to public ridicule or abuse and a wolfpack mentality that has shown its face time and again in our forums. From the first time I dared to open a staged battle thread against one in this group until now, I have had run-ins with the whole group. In most cases where evidence is presented involving one inquiry room regular, it can be seen that you face a group of them at every turn and they overwhelm the thread with arguments against the poster. The use of soft power by them, attempts to sway an argument in their favor because the large % of defenders are mods or friends/family of mods, be it chat or forum. For new players or impressionable players, to see a group of heavy hitters in unison attacking another player has a major effect on how the " troublemaker" is viewed. Let me state that as we know in real life, just because one is in power doesn't make them correct. History is full of evidence to the contrary. In all cases, the facts are what counts, not who is presenting them.

In the past I have been shown where the public inquiry room has been used to besmirch my name. I asked Takesister and Dan-Panic to stop this practice and was told that it would be taken care of. That room is not to be used to publicly scorn another player who isn't even there to defend himself. This has gone on long enough. The following transcripts are directly taken from the inquiry chat room. Because they were posted for the public to read and not one moderator stopped it, and in fact they contributed to it, it is also subject for the public to read on this thread. All posts will be copied and sent to Arctic for him to deal with in case they are removed by those involved.

Well...well. Same thing happened like in the Clan forum isn't it?

If you read post #19 in this topic, you will know that it was I who suggest that the Clan Forum rule should be re-defined and limiting the 'bump' in it to max once/day. Administration think that it is good, and implement it. Look what happened with the Clan Forum. It is more organized than before (when some clans repeatedly 'bump' its topic) isn't it ?

Now..Back to the topic.

IMO, the T&S Forum is slightly different than Clan forums. What makes them difference? It's the "frequency" of information for it's 'potential customer'.

In Clan Forum, not every minutes / hours, someone will need information updates on those clan. Clan advertisement therefore CAN be limited to 1x24 hours without 'damaging' it's purpose. The clan still has space to update and advertise, but on the other hand.. will not clutter the forum and makes it hard to find a good clan if someone wants to join a clan.

But in T&S, we need more frequent information update. Price can change every minute (or even every second). I know that it will be a mess if there is a 'bumping war' every second in T&S forum. And that's why Admin makes the system automatically prevents 'bumping' in 1 hour.

My point is simple. If there is a requirement to limit the bump... change the rule first, announce it, give it a grace period to socialize, and ban those who break the rule.

Even if the situation is like what Omega22 said. (that IT IS illegal but we are used to think that it is legal), I think it would be wise if a Mod can give a public notification about it before start banning people.

If Moderator think that 1 hour bumping in T&S is not sufficient... you can always make a suggestion to change it to (let's say) 3 hours. And if Admins agree, they will change it.

THE TOPIC:

Discussion: The Rules, Empire, Community, Improperness, Law.

________________________________________________

This is a thread created by Moderators and sanctioned by Arctic. I read most of the posts deleted above and all the ones I saw were a "discussion" of "The Rules, Empire, Community, Improperness, Law.".

Following the topic carefully. I would like to discuss the rules:

Is it proper that some rules are applied to just one person or group of people while others are untouched by them? In the admins official rules, "5.3. A moderator must be impartial.". I am not accusing anyone here or questioning any decisions just asking opinions.

I would like to discuss the Community:

Other in the community would also like to discuss this with us but every time the try . . .

I would like to discuss Improperness:

Probably the most important part of ON TOPIC discussion recently. Is it proper that people are being denied their right to discuss an important issue in a thread specially created for this discussion?

Here I will mention a name but not to question a mod's decision or insult in any way but merely to give an opportunity for comment if he wishes. FaithBringer? Do you feel that deleting the above posts will stop the information being made available to the community as a whole and Arctic in particular? Do you not feel that it will further be viewed as an attempt to cover up a situation? I would welcome your replies to this.

I would like to discuss the law:

• Topics in Trade forum cannot be bumped if they are not older than 1 hour.

In my opinion, the admins made there position very clear on this when creating a rule so that posts in this section could not be bumped more than once each hour. If they had wanted 6 hours or even 24 hours the code was there to do this.
