It looks that you ambushed a thief hunter. Not everyone travels naked - actually there are few players who look for ambushes for big exp and fs. Treat this as a nice challenging duel among other ambushes easy to win for a DE ;) provided you wear some arts.

For a mid arts victims - your single SoM could not be enough...
to Abbys:

i only have a SoM, and not enough money to buy better arts (i spent 369k gold to buy my thief invite)
i pass by all hunts because my sword is not enough to defeat them, and i only play ambushes.
i hope SoM will be enough to succeed in thief guild.
it's hard for now: 6 victories,8 defeats.
but i'm working to improve it and to reach a positive ratio ;)

i always travel naked.
i won sometimes in 2VS1 ambushes, but i have only 1 victory on 1VS1 naked against a thief, for douzens of defeats.
i hope to have some victories against naked players with my SoM, but i ambushed only full arts players for now :/


for ArU:

it's really hard to reach 20 init with shrews.
if i used full init artifacts: 2*ring of abdication+sword of might+shoes of inspiration+pendant of despair
i could reach a total of +26% init (21% from artifacts, 5%with my racial level6)
my shrews would reach 20.2 init this way.
enough to play sometimes before EFK, but not 100% sure.
and if EFK plays first, i'm dead.

but i don't plan to use 2*rings of abdication later.
2*ring of inspiration seems to be better:
1:it's a lot cheaper.
2:you don't have the malus of -2 defense.
3: +2 morale seems to be better than +10% init: you usually don't need these +10% init to play first (except if you have the bad luck to ambush full arts elves or DE)

my shrews have 17.3 init for now.
i plan to reach 18.6 init when i will have enough money to use full arts.
but i will never be able to play before these EFK and their 20 init.

i just hope to never meet full arts elves again...or i will be crushed every time :/
Sorry for posting here without being a Dark Elf.

EFK's (with full mithril arts for combat level 9 and faction level 7) have 18.2 initiative and not 20. Given +/-10% divergence on ATB, you can have your Shrews faster than those EFK's.

SoM is not the best option for the minimum AP. Try reprisal sword + defender shield + medal of bravery. It's cheaper and gives you better qualities that price.

Another DE fellow thief demolished by EFK and sprites. It must be kind of a suprise that our lovely shrews do not attack first, right?

I met DE and barbarian thief hunters but never an elf. Do you know any more of them?
thanks for the min AP, i will try it when my SoM will break.
i choosed to use SoM instead of this because i mainly played hunts.
the +3 defense from defender shield was useless for me.
but for ambushes, it can be a good option.

the player i ambushed had EFK with 20 init.
but if some full arts elves have "only" 18.2 init with their EFK, i might win some ambushes against them after all :)
Yes, go min ap. I've played 99% of my ambushes with min ap, amd my win rate is still pretty ok, despite losing more often. It's also possible to win full arted players, though not an init equipped elf..

DE's also normally do not lose to naked players, unless of course you meet another DE and your fsp is 1 or 2, which in your case isn't

You can look through my combat logs for tips. If you do, I suggest that you look at some of my lvl 9 ambushes before the level 8 ones, as I have presumably made tactical improvements against caravans during the course of my thieving.

impossible to kill his units: too much def.
i would need 50 shrews to deal enough damages to kill these vampires.
and 70 manas to raise...
he ended the fight with nearly all his units alive, and enough manas to cast 4 more raise dead.

God5end: i can't decide my settings for the ambushes.
i have problems with the pre combat placement: in hunts i like to put lizards and hydras on the center, covering all the battlefield, shrews on the corner, and poisoners close enough to protect them or to take retals for lizards.
it's impossible to have a good position like this in ambushes: lizards and hydras are forced to stay in 2 corners, and shrews have a bad choice: an other corner and too far away from lizards, or on center and too hard to protect.
i put them in corners with 1 unit to protect them, but i don't have any unit to take retals for my lizards.
i may try to use tactics talents, instead of battle fury to have a better pre combat position.

i will look at your combat logs, i would like to see how you did your ambushes ;)

Maybe with insane luck, but don't expect too much about it.

A full arted necro which I won in an ambush. Two things I need to mention though was the wierd placing of his archers and overall poor troop placement, and my lucky atb placing of my lizards before his vampires, for which the latter had higher init. Lucky me :)

But then in general, the idea is to use shrews to kill ghosts, because they have low hits points, and your shrews high init would mean a fast countdown in the hit-miss ratio. Use lizards to kill off vampires. They have no defense against them. You can easily deal with archers using minos and shrews once those are down. Never let them get a clean shot at lizards unless you can ensure that their sacrifice will bring about tactical advantage.

Of course this is just an aar and my personal opinion, i have a few suggestions you might want to consider:
bad luck on troop placing :)
place lizards on the left side of the map, because the enemy hero blocks off a movement path
your minos should not have attacked the archers as well. They were blocking 3 stacks of shooters, and the main stack of ghost couldn't reach them as well. You should just let them sit there or hit the 2 liches at the top just to wear down its life. They definitely can't kill 4 minos even with luck Imo, that was the mistake that cost your game, because you then had to use your lizards to block the archers instead of poking those vampires.
Spike those 1x stack of ghost or magic missile the main stack of ghost if needed to reset hit-miss counter.
i hope SoM will be enough to succeed in thief guild.

but SoM is not enough to win all ambushes

dont expect to kill & win all ambushes in row with shrews!

shrews cant take place of full arts!
i have bad luck against humans: 1 victory, 4 defeats.
i ambushed 3 full art players and i had 1 double ambush (2VS1), for only 1 fight against a naked player.

but i manage to defeat some caravans with my SoM :)

Depend on how handy you using your stacks.You think tat you good at assisinating the shooters.Use more rogue.Wanna kill melee units desparately?Use more mino.But best if you can makes it balance like mine.
want to know which talent to be used and troop combination in group battle
