wizard magic wont pierce through magic proof while de can.

i would say de magic is good in pvp while wizard magic is good in hunt/mg

Why was this change necessary?

I believe this is the new barbarian ability in HOMM6.
It's a whole MASSIVE conversion of the playing style of barbarians and what made them unique.

No, it does not. It just makes Barbarians even better at where they excel: whacking stuff.

1. This new ability nicely complements their slow endgame units, ogres and behemoths.

2. Your units do not always attack on their turns. Maybe there are no enemies in range. Maybe you don't want to attack that huge stack of swordsmen before taking off it's retaliation...

3. It might help in trying to close the gap between you and those shrews. This doesn't make Barbarians a wait and defend faction, instead it's more like search and destroy. Take the Retribution talent and put the rest on Leadership for best results. Barbarians have Leadership talents, right?

4. Magic protection has limited usefulness, the new ability can be used in all battles.

5. Magic protection is not unique. There are items and enchantments that do the same thing. Also, if you're worried about Wizard and Drow spells, get a few levels on those factions.
nicely well-said.. people are just confused with the new ability and need time to coope;)

Barbarian was a faction with a nearl no use of faction-points. Now it even got worser.
All special abilities has its ups and downs.. I will say no more to you..
if you don't agree on the new racial ability, why are you still playing barbarian then.
I guess, if people like a faction - they play for it even if it has disadvantages in some cases.
if you're searching for profit and records in mercenaries' guild, hunts and thieving - go and play for wizards and elves.

DE without high faction level is not a weak DE. Knight with low faction level is a weak knight.

Factions with powerfull racial ability get it at the cost of a lower recruit count / lower base stats of units.

That's easier to try out when you've got a barb castle...

That's the most absurd thing you could think off. You cannot say the downside of racial ability is that you are weak if you don't have it. That just proves it is a good and strong one... and it doesn't count the same for DE as you discovered, even more now when barbs magic resistance has been removed.

Actually if you look carefuly it is about babarians ;)

Although I have never played a very similar named faction I think the new ability is better for majority of the events, so you should be happy :)

Just because you can't find any use for an ability doesn't mean that others cannot. XP

Nope. I'm very unlucky. My hobgoblin or wolf raider will move AFTER other units. Thoese will now easy take the retaliation.

Not sure if someone answered, but yes, it is indeed all 3 hits with raiders (and I'd assume both with riders)

Like it or not, I find it a strenght that I could be almost as strong as any other DE although I hardly have any skill points as a DE, while I had to loose hundred of ambushes as knight / necro.

Anyway, I won't bother arguing more with a player that gets offensive just because he's being contradicted.
