Mexico's top medical officer voiced optimism Thursday that swine flu has slowed in the nation hardest hit by the virus, but the World Health Organization cautioned there is no evidence the worst of the global outbreak is over. The U.S. caseload rose slightly to 109 as schools nationwide shut their doors, and the crisis even reached the White House, which said an aide to the secretary of energy apparently got sick helping arrange a presidential trip to Mexico.
European health ministers holding an emergency meeting in Luxembourg vowed to work quickly with drugmakers to rush a vaccine into production, but American health officials suggested inoculations could not begin until fall at the earliest.
Mexican Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova told The Associated Press new cases have leveled off and the death rate has been nearly flat for several days. He said the next few days would be critical in determining whether the virus was truly on the decline.
"The fact that we have a stabilization in the daily numbers, even a drop, makes us optimistic," he said. "Because what we'd expect is geometric or exponential growth. And that hasn't been the situation. So we think we're on the right track." |

Don't mind. Swine flu is just like bird flu. Nothing happened then, even though everybody said that bird flu is really terrible. It'll be like that now - a couple weaks of useless fear and then everything will be OK. |

It would be wiser to just take everyday precautions such as washing your hands and avoid close proximity with someone that is infected with N1HI flu. In the late 70's there was an outbreak of swine flu in the U.S. and health officials wanted to rush the production of a vaccine and after it's release it killed more people than the flu itself, a vaccine won't be safe until it has been tested in the lab and is proven safe.
But if you do get N1H1 flu then you can go to the closest hospital and get regular flu antivirals and they will help you overcome the infection. |

The airline with most flights from the United States to Mexico cut back travel to the center of the swine flu outbreak on Friday as the federal government confirmed more than two dozen new cases.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the virus was confirmed in eight more states overnight but the death toll stayed at one _ the Mexican toddler who died in Texas.
CDC said there were now 141 confirmed cases in the U.S., up from 109 on Thursday. The flu is now in 19 states, up from 11, according to federal figures. Separately a few states reported slightly higher numbers.
Federal health authorities sought to reassure the public that _ aside from people with flu symptoms or nonessential travel plans to Mexico _ public transportation remained safe. |

but these those were all predictions that even happened. And they are becoming true and lining up and a nuclear war would make sense with all of this nuclear tension between countries.
hockeymaniac, are you trying to filter the information that you read sometimes? Choose between proven and real and just crap someone made up? EVERYONE can scare people easily by saying world is going to end by war, plague, fire and beasts, because that are the things people are afraid of for 5000 years. And for 5000 years there have been silly nuts predicting war, plague and end of everything. Of course the prophecies are never too specific..they are like "One strong man rule will end because of his greed." And of course it will happen and then the prophecy will be fullfiled. :-) |
