Correct again! You got the prize. :)
OK! Next problem in 2 hours or so. | more Qs! | Sorry for delay (work in real life).
This time I come with a little bit more difficult problem because the last 2 were too easy for ggtouch and I want to make it a little bit more challenging. :)
A hundred years ago, four wizards (three young and one old) sat at a table, smoking pipes and talking in riddles.
The first wizard said the following sequence of numbers: 8, 5, 3.
The second wizard said the following sequence of numbers: 6, 4, 2.
The third wizard said the following sequence of numbers: 4, 3, 1.
The fourth wizard, very old, said three numbers, but only two were in clear voice because he coughed during he was speaking the first number. The only thing which was understood from the first number was "minus" (so, a negative number). The other numbers were: 3 and 5. Unfortunately for the young wizards, it is forbidden for a young wizard to ask an old wizard to repeat himself.
Since then, the young wizards tried to find which was the first number. They even offer a reward of 100 gold pieces for that who will decipher this riddle.
Good luck! :) | #463
-1? | -2 | -8 | -3? | -2 | Sequence is as follow
Wiz1 8,5,3 -> 5 = 8-3
Wiz2 6,4,2 -> 4 = 6-2
Wiz3 4,3,1 -> 3 = 4-1
Therefore
Wiz 4 -2,3,5 -> 3 = 5-|-2|(absolute of) | from another way of looking at it
Wiz1 8,5,3 -> 8 = 5+3
Wiz2 6,4,2 -> 4 = 6 = 4+2
Wiz3 4,3,1 -> 3 = 4 = 4+1
Therefore
Wiz 4 2,3,5 -> 3 = 5-2(which is now neg.) | -4 | we are thinking the same God5end | If the old wizards followed the same logic, the young wizards wouldn't give any reward, they would think for themselves. So, the correct answer is... for sure not -2. :)
For the rest, please, don't give only numbers, but also a logic from which you got those numbers. | a = 1st number of series
b=2nd number of series
c=3rd number of series
c= |a-b|
missing number is -2 | -8
the second two numbers are the opposite way from the first two. 5 followed by 3 gives 8 so 3 followed by 5 gives minus eight? | I talked to the three young wizards and they told me the following: "Young Elf, if we were kinsmen, we would took offence from your answer. But because you aren't, we cannot take any offence. So, here is a hint which your friends seem to miss it during reading our story: our respected wizard is not like us, young, but much older and his way of thinking is more elaborated than ours. His riddle is beyond our logic. So, go back and tell your friends to give the correct answer or no reward will be given."
Instead coming directly to you, my friends, I went to the old wizard and I asked him what was his number. He looked at me and he said: "Young Elf, you are very impatient. But that's normal for your age. Look, I will give you 100 gold pieces for that answer you got from your friends, even if it's not the number I said it." He gave me 100 gold pieces, but before me to take it, he showed me another small bag made out of leather and said: "My number was -8 and I will give that bag with 100 gold pieces to that friend of your only if he tells me why he said -8. Otherwise, those 100 gold pieces will be shared with the first to give a correct explanation."
Finding that, the young wizards got upset and they don't want to see me anymore.
So, I decided that it is fair for Minjoot, Lethos92 and God5end to receive each an amount of 50 gold pieces (from the old wizard) and there are 50 gold pieces more for that who will explain 8. | maybe if numbers are like 853 642 431 so each is decreased by 211 so i keep decreasing until i got to -835...maybe? | Interesting ideas at #475 and #477, I will ask the wizard about them. Meanwhile, any other idea? | I went to the old wizard and he told me he didn't think of any of the two options, but since both provide a good reason, he gave me a reward of 50 gold pieces for each.
Well, my quest in searching for an answer for the problem stops here. If you want to find how the old wizard thought this problem, pm me. ;)
Now, I will take rest from giving math problems for today. :) | for CGSMCMLXXV:
3=5+|-3 |
