Authorelfes to much power
and knights, the slowest army in the game
its funny that a necro is complaining that a elf is overpowered when its virtually impossible to kill a necro with 5 knowledge and with skeletal bowmen is even harder. take that for overpowered.
I am amazed this thread is still going.

Sure elves are a little stronger early in the game.
But once you reach level 7, elves are way, way underpowered compared to Mage, Necro, Knight, Dark Elf and even Barbarian.

Level 8 it gets even worse, I really think Unicorn is the worst level 8 creature available to any of the factions.

So quit moaning and stick it out, you won't regret it once you gain a few levels !

First Minor Tournament result:

Lv5: Rank 1: Knight and Wizard
Lv6: Rank 1: wizard
Lv7: Rank 1: Dark Elf
Lv8: Rank 1: Necromancer

Still said elf is overpowered?
Elves always lose in duels, but not in groups battles :)
easy to say so many words... just try to be an elf (i mean in 5-7 lvls).
Duels - all factions have much more meat and one or more posibilities to kill bowmens on 1-2 terns.
Group battles - elven bowmens often even not first, so they are dead on first tern, next is sprites and druids. So if opponent have archers, or magic - elves are first who die in the battlefield.
So if take of from elves their first powerfull attack (even part of it), they'll be nothing at all.
I, as a Necro find Elfs among the easiest to beat at L 5-6.

No sure about seven, but I guess since I get my 2nd Talent then, while Elf still stick to two, it wont get harder.
I can't get it. I have loads of Problems vs. Knights and Wizards with Obsidian Gargs, but never vs. Elfs with Necro.

He can't win. His 14 Bowmen have 140 HP and Druids aren't scary after they casted their Lightning Bolts.
id just like to say sure were finally good at lvl 3-4 but getting there is very hard against almost anyone your same lvl
Elf are NOT overpowered. i have won 2 duels in a row against elfs lvl 3 with dark elfs the same lvl. when u have killed their bowmen they are useless

Elves are great for support. And high initiative makes it so they have a bigger chance of dealing damage first. But just ride it out (aka make sure they focus their attention on someone else/another unit you don't mind loosing)and pretty soon they're cannon fodder druids last 2 rounds, then they're down to ranged damage. Elven bowman last 5 rounds (rarely tough, because they are usually the first ones to go. Forest keepers can be a big nuisance (specially elite ones I bet) but they don't have the hp or defence to be a sustainable unit.

And herein lies the biggest problem with elves. they are somewhat of a glass canon. Tons of damage at start, but past that, they have no means to sustain the damage output.

Bottomline: Wanna beat an elf? focus on defense, and make it so they waste as much damage as possible on your ranged units, or other expensible ones. long enough for your melees to get to them.
kimbert, by the time that elves can unload all of their damage most of ur useful troops are dead. unless the elf is stupid he'll do as much damage as he can to ur useful troops, so defense wont work. what works against me is using ranged or magic on my elven bowmen so that they die after 1 or 2 turns and then with standing druids spells. hopefully the damage dealt by then is insufficient enough to cause too much damage to ur troops. thats just what i find works the best on me, as i am an elf.

as a knight, I don't get to rely on magic, and my ranged units rarely survive a duel with an elf. I've learnd to survive against elves with my swordmen. bowmen and recruits are cannon fodder, and griffs are there to soak up as much range and magic as they can, and to cut down the sprite/fk numbers. swordies will (hopefully) do the rest.
true but in the end if ur a knight it really depends on ur arts, specifically defense when trying to beat an elf.
I started out thinking elves were too powerful, but as of late I'm starting to take that back. They're still hard opponents, especially in a team where a knight uses his griffin/swords to protect them. Then it becomes a pain. I still think DE's should get more lizard cav's or something at lvl 5 (or a faction bonus that's useful!).
With comperable groups, an elfs role in a game goes as follows:

1. Kill enemy ranged units (because of thier high initiative and damage this usually happens.)

2. Kill off units with high move (this wave isn't as strong because they've taken some hits but it usually happens.)

3. Spend any extra mp buffing their team melee units (stoneskin on a swordsman pretty much defines tanking.)

4. Hide behind the melee fighters with their druids until the game ends.


The problem with elves isn't that they're over powered, it's that they throw all of their power in at the begining of the game when no one else can stop them. Then when they've spent all their ammunition and are defenceless they stay in the game because their druids take to long to kill and aren't a threat.
We want to kill them at the start, but we can't.
We can easily kill them at the end, but don't want to.
Pedestal-Guy, as for point 1:
who tells you that elves have a lot initiative? Sprites and FK - yes they have. But bowmens have only 10 init. For examples - all heroes have 10 init (yes they dont have bonus of it, bu it is no so easy to get 11 init to bowmens, so often heroes have their tern before bowmens). Even skeleton bowmens have 10 init and often have tern before elven bowmens to.
And... usually battles have random settlement. So elves can be on both side. I took part in battles where my bowmens cant deal their tern at all - they were dead before it.
So: elves is strong at the begining of battle. They must have some arts to get more init (need +10% to get first tern). And many players afraid of that begining and want to nerf elves. Eap, all wants to be the best but as for me - this is not honor to beat weak opponents.
