so, it's not a bad guess that your opponent gonna have a mine advantage if you don't have it initially, but its seems too quick assuming that in only 2-3 turns and immediately using initiation
If you don't have mine cards you're more likely to have some decent Monastery cards. Initiation can often give you a sufficient boost to get your Monastery cards out a turn or 2 earlier than normal. That gives you more mana over the course of the game and could give you the edge in winning through tower building.
Often you can end up with a situation where you have only bad cards to play, or even no cards you can play because they cost too much.
It's also not *only* about whether you have a mine disadvantage. If your opponent has significant barrack resources you might not earn enough ore to keep him from smashing your wall and then your tower. Initiation can help in situations like this.
Personally I find initiation to be a decent card. It costs 2 resources, and produces 4 resources and doesn't have a significant downside. Yes, your opponent gets mine income, but so do you. There are certainly worse cards out there.
There are so many potential factors you can't really say it's a bad play without knowing your opponents cards - and even then it's often simply a matter of opinion.

good points, though generally i'll avoid immediately using sources boosting/decreasing cards in the first few turns
if you use it too fast, the opponent may have a card like steal tech/parity/etc that gives them significantly more extra benefits than the few mana/ore you get in the first few turns
although in really close fights, those few extra mana may be the deciding factor just as you said, and in card tourney this could be the difference in getting 0 gold or 300k gold | closed by DEATHisNEAR (2014-03-26 18:59:33) |
