Author[News]Old friends and older foes
It will be wiz alt as K'Herest(sorry for spelling) is DE
What is HOMM6 and HOMM5
Heroes off might and magic .. the game on which this game is based on.
Well well =) After reading this thread I felt like a big nasty villain myself and thought I need to comment on this.

Yesterday's news block is part of the story that continues several lines from very long ago. Some related news were posted REALLY long ago, like close to the dawn of LWM, so only dinosaurs of LWM like Grunge might still remember those news blocks. Many many thanks to Grunge for the comments and especially for related links to the news blocks.

The Mastermind was a character related in one way or another to many events in the Empire.
The first two survival tournaments were given in the news as attacks of Mastermind swarms. It was revealed that the villain used something extraordinary to seize control of the primitive minds of the wildlife in and outside of the Empire (the things we usually hunt, MG against, etc) and direct them all in a massive attack against the Empire. The later STs were called festivals to commemorate the victory over the two swarms, although all, including the first two, actually happened on Arena battleground :-P (It was just my attempt to make it interesting, and at that time - to introduce a global character outside of the Empire).
When the Malady stroke the Empress, it was hinted that the Mastermind was somehow related to it, although no proof was found that he participated in the Malady creation (as we know, the Malady was produced by the Venomancers). His participation in the Malady business is yet to be revealed =)
During the Riot event, the Court members find signet-rings on the bodies of ringleaders, that match those that were worn by the Mastermind swarms new creatures, Renegade thugs, scouts etc, indicating the true source of the Riot.
Finally, Mastermind has made an appearance during the Infernal campaign, and that one was very unexpected. Grunge didn't give post to that one, here it is: https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1896162
I was tracing the forum back then, and few of you risked to suppose that it was the Mastermind, but that was my idea :-P To see how many of you can suggest that he actually sides with Empire and does something for our good in view of a greater threat.
That was undoubtedly the Mastermind, and that news block is important for those who keep track of the story and wish to understand his figure in future.

The Hermit was a character who arrived with the .ru ships in the first Storyline news blocks of the game.
The ships found us by accident, they were sailing across the ocean between the two continents, on an exploration mission, and was luckily cast ashore exactly where our Empire was, so it was not really an Embassy from start ;)
Those of you who joined recently and want to know a little lore of the game, about the little world of ours, are recommended to read the official announcements beginning from this post:

Back to the Hermit. He was really pretty much doing his own thing in our lands, back then it all didn't make much sense (except for some of our real world culture and movie references =) ), here is the particular news block about the Ritual that I mentioned in the last news:

You see, our server events are usually not very planned. First the code is created by the admins, and then I get to know the details, can't really introduce very many changes, and have to adapt the story to that code rather than plan a big epic story ahead and develop the game according to it.
It used to be harsh, but I have quickly found my way to adapt to that, I have just been making a lot of tiny "story jags" based on the plans I knew of, like the knots of story lines, any of which may be picked up and developed further.
I have done so - picked up the old stuff and evolved into some significant story part - several times already, most hopefully it wasn't completely senseless and outrageous, but that is for you guys to judge =) (As one of my early news blocks is called, "Surmises and Facts". I always expect from you some discussions, surmises, about the events in the news, which make me happy like a baby with a candy and I willingly share with you some of my hidden ideas about the plot, the facts =) ).
Over there, the Hermit says "You have heeded. Judge". What or whom does he address?
When I was starting to create some sort of world history and game lore in those early news, I had one idea of the Universe, which later changed.
One thing didn't change: the structure of our Universe is such that it consists of several Planes: the Holy, the Darkness, the Chaos and the Nature. We live in a combination of the four, and very few selected beings (Kh'Everst is one of them) can in some way split them and "look into" separate ones (although, Kh'Everst ability is very basic, and more importantly, he cannot control it, it just happens to him sometimes). But the Hermit was a true master of that "De-planing" the space around him.
He addresses the Nature =) Okay, I admit, when I wrote that I was intending it to be some sort of a Deity of Nature plane, but I have long abandoned that idea, it is too trivial. We, according to "official lore" :-P do not have any gods of chaos, gods of holy, etc, I have chosen the "scientific" approach for the Universe structure.

I would like to finalize this little tea-time chip-chap *scratched* chit-chat with you guys by announcing that the Daily newspaper invited me and the .ru storywriter for a joint interview a few days ago. We talk about the news, the process of story creation and some details of the story among other things. I will see to it that it is released in two languages when it is processed - for all of you who are interested in the story.
The story is something I really value, give some constant thought to, and I am always grateful for any interest towards this unimportant part of the game (since I realize that I am not any great-talented writer; and some of you are probably here to click a creature icon, get max fsp and min exp, to type the 6-digit captcha and close the game tab to get back to your work ;-) ).

Woo, I've been talkative today =)
No way!! You sir are a very talented fella. And i read the story with fondness and even forget to enroll whil i am at if. I am not of the mmorpg type but it is the storyline which keeps.me hooked.
Badge and inventory reward is now given.

The badge is partly in Russian though :(
A bit weird that the minimum amount of victories jumped from 5 to 8. But that doesnt matter for me, i have a nice badge :)
for Grunge:
Thanks for the hints. The story line spans over a long time, some details I've missed.

for Arctic:
I actually find the story interesting, amusing sometimes and captivating, even though with some glitches from time to time (but I've already figured the code/events come first and then the story tries to dress it up, so I got over the little glitches)
reward is nice but it would have been better to add attack instead of initiative
I am happy to get more storyline pieces not only before and after events but also in the meantime. After all, many people like reading fantasy books or short stories.

I wonder, would it be possible to write a nice story with use of rather simple language? Then even more people would read it. Also dialogues or even monologues are very nice to make the reading more interesting than plain long descriptions :)
for Arctic:
Thanks for the clarfication, really needed to remove the confusion. So,technically,Mastermind helps us in some kind of bad-but-good way ? So,in any way is he responsible for the eruption ? We,being exiled, was it all part of his master plan ?

Btw,I got light temporal armor 80/80 !
for Arctic:
Your stories are like the cherry on top of the cake! This game with all the events won't be the same without the story line ;)

I also have a question/request, if at all possible:
Can you create some stories (as hints) to a future event, to let us prepare our real life schedule a few days in advance?
for Arctic:
Your stories are like the cherry on top of the cake! This game with all the events won't be the same without the story line

I totally agree! And thank you and Grunge for the hints; although I always loved to read the stories, I absolutely forgot about the hermit and the mastermind. Seems that my amnesia starts =)
for Arctic:

Thanks for clarify everything =)

I do enjoy the story that you wrote, very interesting!
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
