I've seen what this restriction prevents ... take trav.ian for example, there is no way you played on a tra.vian server and haven't seen a COMPLETE noob PMing you with spam ads (most of the times totally irrelevant to the game), and that's most probably a bot. Restrictions keep this game's PMs clean from bot advertising and people who joined just to spam messages.
Though as I said, I agree that invited people (TRUSTED PEOPLE) should have the option to send PMs (at least to the guy who invited them if not to everyone else). Someone said chat ... can't argue on that, although noone uses it, so most of us totally forgets about it :P |
I have NO mail restriction and also never received spam :) Anyone wishing to send me rubbish spam may do so at their peril!
In many ways a mail filter is a barrier to new players contacting old timers legitimately. A price which I feel is too high. The social aspect and freedom from advertising here at LWM is so precious in a world full of trolls and spam, it is a gift from the Heavens! |
