AuthorMore Communication
for DEATHisNEAR:

Funny thing is the thread has already been posted, and Modi has made the process easy for Lexa to deal with it. Nothing has been done at the moment, Im still waiting :)
Indeed - a number of the later reports I made to Arctic as juries before we were "put on hold" have also not been dealt with.

Cheating is still a major problem and until more people are tasked with dealing with it, it can only be handled slowly.
Instead of fixing the mods problems, and overruling Cepruyc recruitments, why Lexa didnt worked on the cheating problems ? There was not much of a problem with having too many moderators for a while, that would have calmed down the forums. And more to say, administration doesnt even pay them, what does it change for them when theres too many ? lol.

Maybe they should give Cepruyc a block button as well, a little faster processing cannot be bad.
I see a light at the end of this thread, although far-fetched, yet not a light where war rages on, but one which has all sides in one voice seeking answers for the right questions.

Just my analogy on where we're headed.

Anyhow, it seems a bit part confusing: new Mods elected, within 2 days, evicted, and yet Lexa is plucking cheaters out and dealing with them the right way. But there are also instances of players being imposed penalties for certain rulebreaks which they deny comprehensively.

A concern: we wished for Admin activity, and now we're getting it. But is this the right one we've been asking for?
I agree with Dan on "communication" being the necessity.

Talk to us, we will respond.
Leave us in the dark, we will light our own torches and still wander lost.

We all have bosses. Cep had been offline for I believe about 2 days after making the arrangements for new mods. Lexa was then commissioned by his bosses.

Overall,
we all know there have been MASSIVE communication breakdowns between:
Admins and Admin Assistants
Admins/Admins Assistants and the Community
Mods and Community

This doesn't help that the server had been left unmonitored and unmanned (by a long and stable admin presence) several times for as many as 9 months each time since the creation of this server. Yes, it sucks. Yes there are reasons. It's not simply a "social experiement" or because the admins "don't care about this server" as some have suggested. It comes down to a simple fact. Arctic ran this server, it was his baby. The admins still held all the power in decision making (simply facts of a company mindset), but Arctic was the one with the dream, the story, and the drive for .com. Unfortunately, Arctic is not apart of the lwm/hwm family any longer and that causes change. Imagine a small business where the manager (not the owner) has suddenly been sacked or simply had other obligations he had to attend to and so left his job. A new manager must be hired (thus you have Lexa and cepruyc returning). Simply, they don't know every detail of the workings and political structure here in .com. That takes involvement - which takes time to do effectively.

In conclusion, I'm not saying "shut up and stop your whining Dan" (I'm really not), I'm saying make sure you are doing this rant about I cannot hold it anymore because you actually want the knowledge and not just to complain, that it is best for the community, because you are truly concerned with THE POSITIVE CHANGE it could provide, and that you will be willing to humbly provide a deep and sincere 'Thank You' if/when these questions are answered.
I will provide a since and deep : Thank You, if/when the questions will be answered. In the meantime, I will continue on giving some reports of what I find wrong in this server. To help the community lives another day in peace and being informed of what goes wrong and what should be changed, cause communication is the Key to Success.
Oh how fun it's been being super excited to be a mod...and then have all your expectations shattered when you come home and see that you were evicted without the courtesy of a letter explaining what the heck is going on...

sorry for double post:

another quote by Tennyson seems to fit the situation better:

"Ours not to reason why, ours but to do and die." ;p
I do think that when we see some action, it is best to not gripe. Enough criticism can make people throw their hands up and go "it's not worth it for these ungrateful so and sos". Each time Arctic came back, he got bombarded with criticism, and surprise, surprise, he left. The criticism may not be why he left but it couldn't have helped the situation.

I think we should have some patience. See how Lexa does in getting the cheaters. 9+ months of minimal action mean a LOT of stuff to go through. He may have a hair trigger on one or two, but obviously that person can send a mail to the secretary (and those posts are now being read) to state their case as to why being blocked wasn't right.
I do think criticism can make people run, but it is needed. Sorry to say that but we are customers here, and if the customers dont have what they want, they usually criticize the service owner. If the administration cannot hold it with criticism, well thats too bad. Anyways, if the problems arent identified and said out loud, nothing will be fixed.

Communication is the Key to Success.
@31:
I've seen this mistake writen a couple of times.
We are not customers, we are users.
Like it or not, but this game is a free project.
The financial system (diamonds), is not a fee, but a donation.
Donating doens't give any right at all. It is just a way to reward and help the people behind the game.

Don't get me wrong. I like criticism, and i would be happy if there was more communication between admins and player.

+1!

Everything , that was written in that post - is right.
Since you brought this up, let's see an example of a site using donations for the sole purpose of servers cost and any other bills involved (the only decent torrent site I've found) :

Donations To Xxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx

Since you clicked on the donations link you must be thinking about donating to this site. You may also be wondering how you go about it and what exactly you get in return for your donation.

Well, the answer to this is very simple. You receive a small picture next to your name in the forums and your profile to denote how supportive you have been to the site.

You Do Not receive any additional Upload credits or FreeLeech to your account. You cannot buy V.I.P status, neither does donating provide you any immunity from the rules. You will, however, get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing you have helped the site to stay alive for a bit longer.

You basically donate to this site knowing you enjoy it. Everyone is on a level playing field here. Nobody can buy their way to a seed free life or a status they do not deserve. We hope this gains us some respect from the community.

Where does my money go to?

Your money goes solely to the running cost of the servers and B/W needed to keep this site running.
The bill with the host is to be paid on the 28th day of each calendar month.

All Donations are much appreciated. Without your support we simply would not and will not be here.
Thanks to everyone who donates to keep us alive!

Donations that grant donators privileges are really donations?
for triplebuzze:

From Lexa's profile :)

Is it a game?
It's a SERVICE. Not a game. It's a WORLD. Not a game. It's a COMMUNITY. Not a game. Anyone who says, "it's just a game" is missing the point.

And I have said customers, I could have said users as well, as users of a service will generally critize, complain if the service isnt running properly :)
@34:
First off, those "privileges" can be aquiered without donating. Thus, I don't think privileges is an appropriated term. It as more to do with a reward.

I would turn your question into:
Donations that grant rewards are really donations?
In my opinion, yes. As long as the donation isn't a requirement to use the service the donation was made for, and the service isn't only a pretext for the donation.

@35:
I think you missed my point with quoting Lexa. Some would call it a waste of time, others a master piece. This is only a personal judgement of the "thing".

I have nothing against criticism, I even clearly stated that i supported it. Quoting myself:
Don't get me wrong. I like criticism, and i would be happy if there was more communication between admins and player.

I just tried to make the difference between a customer, someone who pays to use a service, and a user of a free service, who uses a service and eventually pays as a donation.
@36

Don't get me wrong, this game is one of the very few where you can be competitive without feeding it with money.

But most times those kind of donations are there for tax reasons or law infringement issues.
oh comm on guys i am too fed up.has anyone seen the pictures of our great new mod Georgia?
