AuthorDiscussion polygon: LWM Staff - Moderators
17>

i m sure you are referring on this topic @ https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1873886&page=last , that's the only ban in your record.

beside, punishment is given depend on cases. someone had been ban for '3rd party comments' for more than 1 week for repeating same mistake. in most case, shortest is 24 hrs while no longest records. we got players with 30 years banned.

similar case like the 16th post in this topic, some of your '3rd party comments' posts had been deleted without punishments. even so, there are other players had been banned at same topic for same reason. i m sure you are NOT color blind on those red words. but, you prefer to ignore and post your comments again.

end of discussion on your case. case closed.
That we are having this conversation is absolutely astonishing and only goes to show exactly how far the situation on this server has declined. We have a server and its community in what is essentially its death-throes and we're expected to discuss the actions of forum moderators? Really? Ok then, you asked for it.

Before I get to the heart of my point, let me state that I think some of the mods have been inconsistent in their approach. I also think that some members have deliberately tested limits to provoke a response from the moderators, then cry foul when they detect inconsistency. This is relatively normal and I have observed it at numerous forums to various degrees. So what is different here?

Here, we have a community that has grown deeply frustrated over lack of communication from administration. This tends to result in a general sense of frustration at anyone associated with the administration of the game. They tend to vent this frustration in various ways on the forums and in-game. This certainly complicates the job of moderators and jurists. Further complicating things and setting the stage for this:

- Moderators are failing to receive guidance or support from you, Arctic.
- We have Jurists charged with trying to keep cheaters under control. These jurists are not receiving guidance or support from you, Arctic.
- We have cries, begs, and pleads in various threads from the community for information about the state of the server. Arctic, you have failed to communicate to YOUR community in response to these.

So, in my opinion, we are now supposed to speak to a situation that is entirely your doing, Arctic. You have abdicated your responsibilities and the resulting mess has ensued. This could all have been avoided months ago had you intervened then and exercised your authority as the administration. Instead, the situation was allowed to fester and grow more toxic. This entire topic should have been dealt with behind closed doors as a simple personality conflict among staff members. Instead, you are inviting a situation in which your customers (us) are going to choose sides and publicly excoriate either moderators or jurists... both groups members of YOUR staff that YOU are responsible for. That you chose to abdicate that responsibility for a period of time should not now be used to drive this situation further into chaos.

This community needs unity, not further divisiveness. This discussion is only going to further divide us and is not productive to the health of the community. Again, it's ludicrous that we are even having this discussion when there are such larger issues at play. I've mentioned this before, but it seems that perhaps the staff (moderators, jurists, and administration) have become much like Nero... fiddling away while Rome crumbles in ashes.

This posting is certainly over the top and violates probably half of the forum rules, so feel free to ban me. This needed to be said though and Arctic needed to hear it.
1) thats funny.... discussing moderators work, while the server lags since month (or even years?) on updates. will we ever get any update, like ru server got so many allready ?
2) discussing moderators work. oh we have moderators? why are so many cheaters outside there then? why are so many illegal transfers on some chars and nothing happens with em ?
3) discussing moderators work. i see. well what about moderators having a look in the foren for CONSTRUCTIVE work, and not only for banning players, cause of breaking rules in forum. what about some real great ideas and suggestions for example? did the moderators ever discuss em? we are getting no infos at all about the server, planed updates and so on...

and if its off-topic. well ban me, nevermind...
#23: You clearly fail to understand the basics. MODs are only MODERATORS (those who decide who is allowed to say what) and, thus, only have power over the forum posts (which is why they can only ban someone from the forum). ADMINs, who are the ADMINISTRATORS have power over the other aspects of the game and can change the code.

It is, however, funny that we are debating the enforcing of the rules from the MODs, while the server is slowly dying...
This discussion is really useless.

Who always complains about mods? Some LoS guys.

Who tries to provoke the mods all the time? Some LoS guys.

Who's crying when they got banned for their provocations? Some LoS guys.

Dear members of LoS, I don't judge you all because you are in one clan, but your word leaders are sometimes, well, I don't find proper _nice_ words for it.

People like Modi, Deathisnear and sometimes limustodotcom have their fun with useless discussions about useless rules (the length of arrows in congrats topics, for example) and picking their fingers in every wound they find. Modi even can't resist to insult a forum mod in public in his well known homophobic and hatefull way. Maybe this is only a roleplay, no one knows.

Obviously this guys can't stand that someone they don't like has more power then they have, even if it's only the little power to ban a user in a tiny browser game, which is only interesting for about 1000 people in the whole wide world.

It's silly enough and speaks loud words about the boredom on this server, that the admin of it (Arctic) has to open a topic about this childish behaviour. No offense, Arctic, but some open words about the future of the server and what we can expect anymore would be of more use.

Sometimes I feel here like beeing surrounded by angry children who want to defend their quarter of the sandbox. To death, of course.
I agree with Slynky on this one. Jurors and moderators should be replaced en masse. I would also suggest that jurors and mods should no longer come from either WGW or Los. This situation has become a clan war, just not the one I hoped for.

And for the arrow lengths... really guys? Just measure your "arrows" the old fashioned way and be done with it.
#23
my post is addressed to Arctic, not to you.
So let him decide if case is closed or not since obviously you are not part of the jury, never heard of conflict of interest?
And for the arrow lengths... really guys?

Yes pimaen, yes. Cheaters are running wild, admins are absent, but arrow length is the only thing that really matters. I'm glad Arctic is bringing the issue of moderation, because the underlying cause is even more critical.

Can't help bringing this thread for context:
https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1877756

Poor people lost over the length of an arrow. Please don't laugh. As mentioned in a message received after my resignation: (author name withdrawn)

No hard feelings and it was never personal for me, just a matter of justice, honour and equality.

Just in case you wonder, yes, the person is still speaking about length of an arrow. That's priceless.

Like we're all on the sinking Titanic and arguing over what the chamber orchestra should play...
This is increasingly confusing.

@26
With all due respect Nutella, the thread discusses the Moderators, not the actions of clan leaders and so forth.

Anyone blatantly accusing or suggesting something besides the stated topic is directly out of line. It is definitely unfair to us in LOS to have other clans' members speaking of our leaders in these ways. If they have committed certain actions which are unpleasing to your eyes, that is just a matter of self opinion and preference and NOT a direct implication of anyone or everyone else. Thus, please retract such statements and refrain from being engulfed in them. I have no qualms on any clan's leaderships, even yours, but even if I do, that is for the clan to deal with, NOT and CERTAINLY NEVER for an outsider to show displeasure out in public. WGW, LOS, or any clan for that matter.

Apologies for going off-topic if I did: was just clarifying Nutella's post.

Back to the topic. I for one have never been banned by any Mod (I think?), but with all due respect, Mods as well as Jurors and all should be thanked for their work on their respective fields. As many have pointed out, power comes with responsibility and thus comes with respect, yet actions of any player for that matter should always be impartial. Thats my personal view and I believe the views of many others who desire a clean and fair administration as well.

My thoughts are well placed within any boundary, but if anyone finds anything offensive within these words, only a PM is required. Thank you.
Regards,
arc
I recomend we should contact some english speaking mods from ru. to determine the optimal arrow length . Imho it should be 5 , but opinions differ . A rule saying something like 'while posting on forums , no of symbols in an arrow cannot be more than X . After all arrows come before cheaters , frauds , updates etcetra . :-@
Cheaters are running wild, admins are absent, but arrow length is the only thing that really matters

agreed. the most pointless argument i've ever seen. why in the world did mods ban people for that? last taste of power given to them before Titanic hits the bottom?

far worse things were never punished. but arrows, what a hellish crime
I suppose it will matter to someone, somewhere that a rule on arrow length was consistently applied on a server and forums that were shutdown due to dereliction of duty by the entire staff and administration, but I'm hard-pressed to guess who that person would be or why it would matter to them.

Seriously, the absurdity of this entire situation is making my brain hurt. How can any rational person observe this and not immediately be driven mad by the absolute insanity?

/Wanders off to to make a hat out of crayons and find a fiddle to play with...

True. If there wasnt an issue for arrow length by Mods themselves, this thread wouldnt even be necessary:
https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1877756

In this view, if Mods didnt see the arrows as a problem, then there wouldnt be any issue at all. But since there were certain standards which were somewhat inconsistent, thus the need for one with a query to ASK and KNOW the true answer. All problems could have been avoided if those who were in the wrong admitting their mistakes, the clear rules followed and laid to bare, and all would have been satisfied.

No matter what the query is about, if it is legitimate, it still stands as a query and thus requires attention and answers.
This as been discussed in forum and chat mod hub and Arctic never been part of it, he never ever replied once to any comments made in this forums, well not in the Chat one anyways, as far as I know.

I wont tell you why Skunder have resigned and now Kotrin, you should all know it already. The reasons are obvious and now 'They' have their victory so hardly gained.
I recomend we should contact some english speaking mods from ru. to determine the optimal arrow length

Actually, we should set-up a Q&A session with Game Administration on heroeswm.ru radio channel with an agreed-upon professional translator appointed by elected representatives of our community, then work it out on its compatibility with international standards. It's just a matter of justice, honour and equality you know.

Or perhaps Arctic should make clearer what is exactly the freedom mods can enjoy while exerting their duties... Nah, forget about it. Bring us a translator!
@30:

If so many people have problems with the mods in this game, tell me: Where are they now?

It's a LoS made topic, it's always 3 or 4 guys of LoS complaining, accusing others, insulting others or in general seeking and creating trouble. Maybe it's their hobby, I don't know.

I doubt anyone has so much problems with accepting an 1 hour ban like the word leaders of your clan. Everyone would get over it, but no, guys like Deathisnear have to make a big affair out of it.

I really don't care too much about that symbol beside my name, trust me, and I don't try to defend the mods which are in my clan. They have made mistakes, they didn't ignore the provocations. If you take it as an offence to yourself, if I offend your clan leaders, please get some distance and think about it again. :)

This topic is about some players, who are by accident members of LoS, accusing some other players, who are by accident members of WGW, of power abuse.

So it's really not offtopic to see the other side of the coin, the LoS side, which is constantly playing with their "power" and "influence" by beeing in the jury.

It's not a clan war at all, at least most players in WGW laugh about this or are not interested at all.
Eureka ! I got a better idea ! The members-of-the-clan-who-do-nothing-wrong should pile up there piggy banks and buy this server . Atleast this way they can set there own-mighty-justice-holding rules ^_^
You all wanted clan wars, huh???? Well you have them! Arctic brought 'em. No problem has been solved by his arrival. But he brought the clan wars wide out into the open.

They'r called Discussion polygon: LWM Staff - Moderators

The Dwarf wars will blow out when Maxim and Alex show their nose on the forums... (I don't need to tell you what each side will be...)
And who said we were missing clan wars? So far this is the only thing they brought...

Now on the topic,
Obviously, you can't please everyone. There will always be someone that thinks he recives an unfair treatment from a mod.

Improving the experience of both users and mods can be done by some basic changes in the forum itself, like giving users a way of editing their posts, so they can fix things if they realise they made a mistake (like putting a relevant name to a topic before a mod bans him; and yes, he might escape the punishment, but you got what you wanted and that is a relevant name for the topic and a lesson learnt for the user too), giving mods a way of recovering "deleted" posts (mods are not perfect, you know, mistakes shouldn't make people lose important information they may provide within a message just because someone removes it for a wrong reason and then says sorry...), and how about giving a predefined list of reasons for mods when editing/deleting/banning someone instead of custom-made-reasons wich don't really look like reasons most of the time (they do look like jokes, irony, useless comments etc.), therefore increasing the level of unfairness somneone thinks he recives from a mod (like I was already talking about in my second paragraph), furthermore, a SEARCH function should be made for the forum (I know, I know - there is "one"... - let's be serious, you can code a flash-game engine and you can't make a search page?!), and I believe that making a category for each faction to ask questions would be a lot better than having a "All about <faction_name_here> faction" topic in where it's impossible to keep an eye on or search or even find the topic itself if you're new around.

Moderators should also either enforce the rules or not. There's no other way between these two. If you see 3 people doing the same bad thing, you either ban them all or you don't ban anyone. And if you ban them all, you make sure you ban them equaly. These way, no one would complain.
Also, when deciding to ban someone (or not to ban), you should remember what you choosed because you've just created an precedent, and if you decide in any other way the next time, you will be pointed to your first action.
