Mixed blessing here.
Good exp means fast leveling, and fast leveling means more castle buildings to build, more expensive artifacts to buy, etc. At higher levels all is more expensive. That's why one should save gold for later. |

Exactly! And that's why you have to be wise. This game is called "Lords of War and Money" for a reason.
If you level up too fast (gaining Exp from PvP), without giving time to your other Guilds like HG, LG etc, your character will have many disadvantages.
One of disadvantages... you already know that. It is the "money" part.
Another one (for example) is : You only have HG2. You already know that higher HG means +Attack right?
You won't survive for long if you do too many PvP. You won't have enough gold to support you (unless you are ready to buy diamonds of course). |

The key is:
You must know when to FIGHT, and when to STOP. When you don't have enough money to support you.. stop fighting. Only enroll every hour, and do 1 fight every 10 hours.
When you have enough money, you can start fighting again. Do not underestimate Hunter Guild (like what you did now). You will feel sorry in the future.
You are a wizard, and now Mini Arts are FREE. I can't imagine what will happen to you if you play 1 year ago when Mini Arts were not free.
