What is stopping the mods from formulating there own rules to work by?
Nothing is stopping the mods from formulating their own rules to work by. That is why they have the option for players to make complaints to secretary about moderator's "unjust" actions! | for Omega22:
How hard can this be? The issue is raised. The mods get together and agree on a unified ruling and set it in stone. You don't need admin to hold your hand in every situation. On the jury, we work as a unit and formulated a system that we all abided by and added to it as subjects were raised. We didn't knock on Arctic's door every time we had something come up. We took the initiative ourselves. It just isn't that hard. | a clarification was needed, not the answers we were givenDo we need to run to Arctic or can't the mods work as a unit on these issues and act as one?
You might want to contact these guys about the case, they are the ones who can sort it between them:

Sages have different positions at forum. I can only say I wouldnt BAN for bumping in trade section because there is an exception in local rules that seem to be above the general forum rules. Although I can see the reasons to change this exception in trade section. It is definately an abused feature. | The mods get together and agree on a unified ruling and set it in stone.
I think they have already a private forum section for this, so let them sort it out, but it takes a while to get all together, because they seem to be recruited from different time zones for 24/7 work.
But anyway first thing to do is change the local rules at trade section, because even if this ban was bypassing local rules, I definately can see the proper reasons behind it. Abuse of trade section. Normal player who can bump his post only 2-3 times a day, doesnt have a chance to sell anything. I even remember some players assisting each other in using older threads to cover my own.
So the first thing to do would be change the local rules, OR a simple one: Create a sticky with local rules and some general terms of use which would be always on top. Sometimes it is easier to take the reasons to break the rules away than punishing each player for breaking them. | The mods get together and agree on a unified ruling and set it in stone.

That would be FAR better than having one mod banning for something that has been allowed by all other mods for how long now? Admin obviously already took a position on this subject or they wouldn't have addressed it with their program. When admin takes such a step, it is a clear indication of what is allowed and what isn't. But if a mod decides to act on his/her own, and misses the most blatant thread in that section, one has to wonder why? Equality is a must. There is no one above the law. A thread with 160 bumps being ignored just doesn't sit well with the rest of us. For those accusing me of stirring up trouble, remember one thing, I wouldn't be writing this if I didn't get what I feel is an unjust ban and rightly want a clarification for all to see so we have some sort of guideline to follow. All was well in that section until bans started flying for things always done there. That should get no reaction? Sorry but it sure demands some explanation. Because it's always the same few players who have the guts to post about these things, we get a reputation. So be it. | But if a mod decides to act on his/her own, and misses the most blatant thread in that section
Then we use the secretary and mods gets a real "No, no! Bad moddie" from the admin if the reasons were proper.

I disagree on that. All wasnt well. It was just a chaos. Still it is a chaos.
Note that I have not commented on everything on your post for reasons that not everything needs a comment from me.(especially those parts that I am positive or neutral about) This is just a clarification before the question "Why do you always pick only some of the sentences out of the context?".. | well, i try to not enforce the bumping rules too hard. i assume forum users suppose self-behave better; but not let us to get in by force. i give you guys freedom but without misused it.
beside, some mods might not mercy enough like me on Trade sub forum. they will might enforce the rules harder.
ofc, we always have kids who never learn. mercy wasnt deserve for them :) | ofc, we always have kids who never learn. mercy wasnt deserve for them :)
Same goes for mods in some cases ,eh?

In your opinion, do you think this situation was adressed by admin a few months back or did they just impose an hour long "no bump" program because they were bored? I'm not a merchant and when I hopefully finally sell my sword I won't be back in that section for a long time. That isn't the point though is it? The points are that a single mod is banning for what the rest don't, the admin already adressed this issue, and the most blatant abuse of this was ignored. Admins action on this raised subject isn't the final word on this? Another point is that in the section I got my ban in, many times items are sold and active threads are sitting below them and there is no reason to call it abuse to raise an active thread above a closed and dead one. Ever think about that? | 28>

let me make thing clear. in most case:
1. problem occurred and defined.
2. create solutions, new rules and guideline to overcome.
3. we mods will vote to decide on new rules accordingly.
4. if majority not agree, go back to step 2.
5. the rules will be up once the majority agree on it. it will be published to announce.
Modi,
obviously, the bump rules and guidelines were agreed. it is all about mod to follow and enforce it in a easy way or HARD way.
take your case, bumping thread could lead to potential mass flooding and/or mass spamming. flood and spam are against the rules; bumping thread rules are just the extension from flood and spam rules.
as usual, you can always question whether the punishment is too heavy or not. to do this, contact admin OR Arctic as he is more active than admin.

i got big hate club after me. so, i dont feel want to comment on this :) | | Try not to quote whole posts, better refer to them as post 30, etc. It is much easier to read the whole thread then. | Modi, you want to be treat like all the others? Write your complain to secretary and wait for an answer. ^^ That's the answer mortal players get, so why all the trouble?
IMHO game and forum rules are enough, every newbie must be annoyed to read sites full of paragraphs for not getting a ban or block. And as long mods don't belong to some swarm consciousness we have to live with human and individual decisions (and mistakes).
All this energy for a 2 hour ban? Or justice for all? Or something else? | closed by Modi (2009-12-23 17:03:05) |
