Who cares? we like this game and that's all that matters :) Why should I care what other people think of me playing this game?
Yes, I have to say that all RPGs are 'nerdy'...because, well, they are the social worlds for nerds and anyone else who plays plays for the fun...or something like that. I'm really not trying to stereotype here, but that is just what I think.

i think adventurequest is a little geaky its boring
you guys are confused, nerd and geek are distinct. please if you don't know the difference look it up. here is a good distinction.

Geek: an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity.
Weapons, computers, tools, cars, aircraft. These are the reals of the geek!

Nerd: an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person ,especially devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits.

To be a geek is good. You know technology.
To be a nerd is not so good. But people who are nerds can have successful lives.
eve online is for geeks.

lordswn is just a cool webgame with nice battle features, and a bit too oriented to "farming", and a simple way to pass time without problems of usual geek games. chess in fact requires a fast brain with the ability to remember tons of different situations and cobinations that leads to victory, so it's way more strategic then lwm that relies greatly on how many you farm and the cost or your arties and enchants, so it's rather a "farmer" game. fact lwm don't require a great brains? I always loose while playing chess vs computer or human, but i have good chances to win in lwm, so lwm don't require to be einstein to achieve something good.

for sure, you can choose to pass all the day into this game or play less, like any games in this world, but it's all about farmin your faction, your hunt score, your pricey forge and enchants, your thief guild skills, and mercenaries are here to give some more. Personnaly I'd like another one (or two) more way to farm something, like for ewample a way to have just +1% permanant "choose damage type" damage or a +1% of effect to your faction skill...soit's clear it's not geek it's all about farming!
The way i see it geek and nerd although may technically have different meanings in reality they are the same. the way i see it "geeks" are the sad losers with no social life the people at school who would rather do homework and worry about studying than go out with their mates, and in reality a nerd is the same.

"youre skilled in engineering, you're a geek"

is not a phrase i often hear

besides its not about knowing the actual meanings but about what others think of our game. but different points of view are coming across which is good its good to know what people think

the main difference between "geek" and "nerd" is that, in the first case, the person is avoiding the human interaction, while, in the second case, only some certain types of groups accept those person (even if the person is willing to have human interaction).

2. yeap, you think once what to use for minimizing the cost of minimum ap and that's all. a lot of thinking for that. it's like you need a very high iq to read just a post created by others to minimize your costs.

for everybody few simple questions:

how can a fantasy game (describing a fantasy world) have a real life based economy? do we have any basic element from the real life element here? do we have any democracy here?

as far as i saw, the administration does what it wants not caring about the players complains. they created an artificial crysis after introducing the ap rule by clearing out all the resources from the mines. did they consult anyone about that decision? no

about the ap rule i spoke already.

do you want more examples of non-democracy? so, where is the main element for a real life based economy?

if you can answer this, you will be able to contradict my opinion. but don't come with very intelligent computaions like a + b - c.

Ever heard of a car geek? I hear it all the time. A skilled machinist is far closer to being a geek than a nerd.
i think that all strategy games (like this one) takes a lot of time everyday, well if u have nothing to do play this game, about social things? u can be social for the first 8 hours of the day then get home and play the game. do u feel shame about that? all this geeky talk is like zero to the left, nothing , just play , r we here a dictionary to translate geek and other words? why should we care ???

The fact that at the moment you win vs lwm AI or human opponents does not make the game less complex than chess. There are two huge differences... computer AI for chess is clearly FAR better than AI for lordswm , if we had here equivalent AI trust me the neutrals would be your worst nightmare! The second huge difference that applies when fighting human opponents is that you don't have good competition here because noone cares to study the game long enough to calculate every move to win against you. Everyone just does a move that seems ok. Imagine here a tournament which would give the winner the prize a world champion gets in chess ( real money ) and number of competitors equivalent to people that play competitive chess around the world and you can see the differences.

Lordswm is far more complex than chess, it has a bigger board, armies are different , creatures have special abilities, luck and morale exists. If someone knows the basics of probability theory it's easy to understand the huge difference in complexity. The thing is noone really needs to play the game like chess.

There is huge difficulty in that task but the game does not require much thinking to win in most battles. That's a part of every game... You think that if you played chess against Kasparov he would need to think to beat you? Think again, he would beat us being drunk and playing blind chess most likely in a simultaneous game against me you and 100 more people. The fact that there are easy combats around ( that's happening a lot at lower combat levels that's why most low level people are rather ignorant of the complexity of the game ) does not make the game itself easy. Try to play a bit at a high combat level where every 2nd hunt is red with exclamation and the rest are simply red and maybe once per day you get a yellow or green hunt of some forgotten or new monster. And every extra artifact you equip costs 30% of your enrolling revenue and you do 2 such fights per hour.
Also about the ap rule.... the game has around 1500-2000 active players, the fact that 50 of them complain against AP rule does not mean the majority cares. Not to mention that a lot more than half of the ppl i saw complaining about AP rule have no idea how much artifacts cost per battle. After a point in most of your fights you will need more than minimum AP anyway ( unless ofc you play to lose )

you mentioned a big name from chess. it is true i won't even dare to challenge him. as i wouldn't dare to challenge anyone who has at least 5 years experience in chess (even if i have more). why? because i consider myself a novice in chess. the complexity of chess is far beyond the complexity of this game. there are many strategies in chess you even cannot think about.

but i play heroes of might and magic (homm) since a long time and i know some strategies related to. and there are many players here who came because they liked homm and they wanted to play pvp (which is far more difficult than playing against the game AI). that's why some of those players (think of Kasparov complaining about the timing in the chess, don't you think the organizers would like to here him? and think of no name complaining about the same problem, do you think anyone would pay any attention? most of those 50 you can find them in the top hunters and they are considered one of the finest in the game) asked for more economical freedom for combats. you speak about a difficulty i cannot see it. if you want to break a record, you need full arts (most of the time). for that you don't have to think of anything related to the economy (if you start thinking like that, you give up breaking the records). if you have "piece of cake" level for your hunt, you don't need any art to beat the monsters (ap rule is stupid here). if you have yellow or red hunt, you can do it in two players without arts (from my experience).

so, related to the hg, you speak from a point of view i don't share and i will never share because it's individualist and disregarding the social part of this game.

about mg, the average payment is far bellow the costs of the fight (even with the elements you get). so, your point is not valid.

for tg, you need to give back the tgi asap, which means you cannot afford the luxury of losing. again, invalid point from you.

for pvp, well, i let people to speak about this (believe me, you will find many voices saying: "pvp with small arts is a joke").

so, short story:
1. among those "50" players who complained about ap rule at the beginning there were big names which are to be remembered for a long time here (i don't consider myself a name in this game);
2. hg, mg, tg are quasy-independent on the economical computations. your points are not valid. forcing me to fight 800 zombies with minimum ap is a waste of money and time (by decreasing the level of combat challenge). but if i have 200+ poisoners, for sure i will use all my finest arts.
3. don't forget that many of the good players here are coming from heroes of might and magic world (which this game is based on), and not from tycoon (a famous economy based strategy game). these players are interested in combat challenges and not in economical challenges.

but if you want to discuss that, let's go on pm. i have a lot other arguments here.
i think it comes down to personal preference, i was one of the (cool kids) at school bunked, comedian, always in detention, hated everything about school...but here i am playing a (geeky game) just because some people like to play stradegy games online doesnt make them a nerd or geek its just what they like to do, some people would rather smoke drugs and listen to music, thats what they like to do, everyone has there different hobbies and interest. if you care about what your friends think get some new ones, if they dissin you about somthing you like doing then you hangin with the wrong crowd dude. so to answer your question this game is not geeky or nerdy its an online stradegy game.
Geek and nerd are different, if you ask some people they mean the same. Online RPGs, strategy are classified a lot as nerdy. (not geeky). Though, like 32, a lot of people who are not nerds play them also.

CGSMCMLXXV, compute this for me. What should the cost of 50% smith be in order for repairing to better than buying a new defender shield?

1. Now answer that for every single art with you can buy from a facility or the shop.

2. Now put in variable price for the art so you can apply the formula to thief arts and hunter arts.

3. What if the art has been repaired a few times? When does it make sense to just sell it and buy a new one? What price should the repair smith lower his cost to?

4. Now take into account all smiths from 10% to 90%.


For just a simple yes or no question on whether or not to repair becomes a very complicated mathematical formula. These are just a few issues with repairing. There are actually several more variables to account for.
Ok i admit i got the title wrong under review if i could i would change the title to

"do you think "Lords of War and money is a game for nerds"

i think it is safe to say from everybody's posts that the answer is definitely no. if there is anybody who thinks different then your opinion is welcome here
