20: same with shrews
its like cheat in hunts
while u can hit them, but they cant reach u

look at some slow creatures, the top record breaker is a DE, not wiz
i must admit shrews looks very strong.
and i agree, it's like cheat in some hunts.
shrews VS zombies, with hit and run...i didn't look at top hunter records for zombies but i can imagine that the 3 first zombies hunters are DE, and i think wizards will have to work hard to beat this DE's hunt records.

but shrews are outside of this discution :p
this topic was made by a level5 DE (with rogues, not shrews)
he asks which mercenaries quest he can do.
a wizard come and says: they are all easy, i defeat all of them.
but he did it only because of his cheated ability.
that's why i explained that wizards have huge advantages on merc quests, and that some quests are extremely easy for them, and extremely hard for other factions.

You have no idea how weak mages really are. Their 4th tier troop (magi) has 18 hps (yes they have magic punch if they can survive long enough to use it and their range att is hard to use because it hits everything in its path), gargoyles only do 1 damage, golems are slow and gremlins are useless. The power of the mage is the mage himself, and not his troops.

The nature of the mage is different than all other factions because of this. Where most heroes are weak and their units are strong, the mage is the opposite. This makes certain things easy, like merc quests 'kill on advance' because we have plenty of time to use our spells before the units get to us, but things like ambush are very hard because we are weak when its face to face combat (though ive done 3-5 ambushes of tried as well, by using good tactics and rushing the weakest corner of the map).

In the end its tactics and learning how to use your factions skills and units in the best way they can. But to say mages are somehow 'cheating' is absurd, especially when at lvl 5 elves and knights are by far the strongest factions.

why are shrews outside out this discussion?

mage's spell bonus only applies to merc quests & hunts, while shrews' advantage of hit and run applies to PvM and PvP. wouldnt that make it a bigger cheat?

all in all, if u think wiz r cheating, u can stop complaining and start playing as a wiz. as the admins have said it long ago, all factions r balanced (at least for lower lvls)
I think all Karsot is trying to say here is, that wizard have it fairly easy on merc-quests and that is due to their racial ability to deal more dmg on neutral creatures with their spells. This abbility has nothing to do with their strength compared to other factions, since in pvp it does not apply.

And since only in lvl 7, 31 from 83 overall hunters records are held by wizards - more than any other faction (elfs 19) - it is quite obvious that the bonus is a little to strong.

The lvl 7 is only an example, but anybody can see the dominance of wizards in hunting reagardless of the lvl.

I wouldn't call it cheating, but I think the designers haven't found the right balance yet in this case.

This is a bit misleading because if u look at the whole list there is an obvious pattern.

Mages do well vs the stronger monsters but if u look at the 2nd half of the list there are almost no mages because they dont do as well vs lots of weaker monsters.

So yes its true that mages do dominate the top hunters that is mainly because of theor strength vs few very strong, but ignore their weakness vs many weak and average creatures.

There is balance if u r willing to look for it.
I have to agree that wizards get the easy ride in this game with their spell powers but if I was that bothered I'd simply move factions.

As it is I choose to be a Barbarian (level 5) and if you check the top hunts you'll see that I will have the most challenging time of all factions in getting high kill counts as there is very very few barbs on that list...and not much chance of any getting on it!

I like to challenge myself that's why I am a Barb', if it was my son he would go for the easiest as young kids nowadays always look for the easiest option to win at games as patience isn't a word my son knows plus they have it so easy in life and are unwilling to put effort into anything it seems...my opinion of course....lol

Vanguard of Wizards are the EASIEST .. u even do not need any ARTS to defeat them. but do not forget to ALWAYS slay the Shooters first, what ever they are FIRST ! .. then ur mercenary archers will be save and Try To be DEFENSIVE then ur mercenary archers will be safe till the game over ...

My opinion is

1.With full army, other factions can deal much more dmg then wizards do,
when their troops die,their power decrease fast.
Wiz can always cast 100% magic shot with 100% troops or only 1 garg.

2.Magic ignore defence, this make wizards powerful against high def monster.

Now that I have done all the (0) and (1) non 'monster' ones and i'm doing the (2)s and (3)s, it is getting much harder and my rep is dropping fast lol
My experience, as level 5 demon (Faction level 4) and no artifacts.

Vanguards of Wizard is easy, Vanguard of Knight is winnable. I manage do to some Army when they come in three waves, and low ties groups of identical units (like, invasion of Elves Archers).

Escort, delivering and monsters are unwinnable. I still try them somehow, as you get some faction points anyway, but at the moment I can't win them.
At lvl 5 can do some 1st tier monsters like gremlins or goblins,and some low tier shooters like archers,you should try to complete them to get some points ar meteorite shard(it goes good at the market ;))
Escorts are just too hard at lvl 5 you can do only some of them,but that changes at lvl 6,and also more monster quests are doable!!
at level 5 i think we can do all shooters monsters, not only low tier (except shooters with no melee penality like orcs)

i recently fough against druid-monster and liche-monster and defeated them.
their stats (attack, defense, damages, hit points) are approximatively the same than low tier monsters.

exemple:

liche hits a little bit stronger than gremlin engineer, but liche has lower HP and initiative.
it's about the same difficulty for the 2 monsters (i think gremlin is maybe harder than liche)

i always refused high level monsters, but now that i know they are easy, i will try them.
You cant do all high level monsters like cavalry,efks and vampire,too strong for lvl 5 and lvl 6!!

I prefer lvl 7 to begin doing all merc quests,due +25% creature recruit count and +5 arts points,and of course powerful lvl 7 arts what is a big bonus,I cant wait too lvl 7 ;)!!!
